Analysis of Thermochemical Systems

Life Cycle Associates has hands on experience in the development and analysis of thermochemical biofuel energy systems including Fischer Tropsch (FT) synthesis, methanol to gasoline, pyrolysis oil production, methanol, and hydrogen. We perform process simulations, mass and energy balances, and life cycle analysis of thermochemical systems. Important factors to consider in such systems include providing a closed mass, energy, and carbon balance. The treatment of co-products including naphtha, chemicals, and stored carbon is also critical to these fuel pathways.

Our capabilities with thermochemical systems include determination of feedstock mass properties and heat of formation for equilibrium analysis, process modeling, carbon balance analysis, techno-economic analysis, and life cycle analysis. We have worked with many thermochemical biofuel producers to examine their processes by analyzing the material and energy balance of their facilities, balancing the carbon budget of their fuels, and assessing the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of their products and co-products.
