Life Cycle Associates conducts environmental analysis of large scale alternative energy project

DG Energy Web SchematicLife Cycle Associates will conduct the environmental analysis for the DG Energy Program, a large scale alternative energy project by The D’Arcinoff Group, Inc. (DG) that converts natural gas and biomass to renewable liquid fuel and power. The project has already attracted major clients. GE Aviation announced Wednesday that it has entered into a multi-year agreement with DG to purchase up to 10 million gallons annually of DG’s low CO2 emissions jet fuel for production and development testing of GE jet engines.

With a production target of 40,000 barrels per day, the initial phase of the DG Energy Program focuses on production of low CO2 emissions synthetic jet and diesel fuel, along with naphtha. The manufacturing process is powered largely from renewable solar and wind energy and uses cellulosic biomass, natural gas, and water electrolysis generated feedstock.

Under the contract, Life Cycle Associates will conduct the environmental analysis of the project. This includes examining life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of the DG Energy Program as well as looking at compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2), the European Renewable Energy Directive (RED), and all other applicable state and federal regulations.

The process of the DG Energy Program is interesting to Life Cycle Associates because it utilizes unused non-food feedstocks, which are abundantly available and do not negatively affect food production. For additional information, contact outreach@lifecycleassociates.com.
