Life Cycle Associates examines carbon intensity of Canergy’s Cellulosic Ethanol Project in California

CanergyLife Cycle Associates completed an analysis of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of Canergy’s Cellulosic Ethanol Project in California. The project attracted major attention when Canergy announced its collaboration with Chemtex and Beta Renewables two weeks ago.

Canergy is building a 25 million gallon a year cellulosic biofuels facility  in the Imperial Valley of California. The facility, which is expected to be operational in 2016, will produce ultra-low carbon intensity ethanol from sustainable non-food energy crops.

Life Cycle Associates was retained by Canergy to examine the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions associated with the ethanol fuels that will be produced in Canergy’s plant. Life Cycle Associates also ensured compliance with  the Environmental Protection Agency’s Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2) and developed a pathway under California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) as recent U.S. EPA and California State regulations require the use of lower carbon intensity transportation fuels. Life Cycle Associates determined that Canergy’s feedstock and fuel production processes qualify for cellulosic RINs. For additional information, please contact us.
